There are plenty of staggering statistics out there that tell the story about how childhood trauma affects the onset of suicidal ideation in adolescence and adulthood. Depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and isolation can all accompany the signs of PTSD. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that such persons struggling with these feelings may experience suicidal ideation.

Yet there is hope for these children, adolescents, and adults. Participating in therapy, group therapy, and practicing the many coping skills I have written about in my previous blogs, may have a positive effect on a person’s outlook on their situation.

When alternative, affirming practices are used to replaced negative thoughts, reaching out to a safe individual replaces spiraling into suicidality. The earlier one seeks treatment, the better. If you or someone you love is struggling, reach out to a safe person or a crisis center.
